This column for the Nevada Appeal is from five years ago when I saw school budgets erode when it came to things like class-size reduction, teacher salaries, counselors, and enrichment programs. At the same time, budgets grew (and grew!) for testing. Look around your state, your district, your school and tell me if anything has changed. Are we still spending more on testing than we are on teaching?
Nicely written! And the answer for Arizona is, we’re lucky if we spend anything on education. 😦

Thanks. Education was one of the reasons my kids left AZ before our granddaughter started school.

In Colorado, the answer is also yes. The district I joined and worked in for five years that invested in teachers through generous professional development budgets and opportunities, time for collaborative learning built into their days, and teacher leaders in each building to model and encourage has cut all those things and more but the testing expenses continue unabated. It’s discouraging.
