What are your Daily Habits?

My response to yesterday’s prompt was pretty easy. As I’ve aged, I’ve learned that habit and routine are survival skills.

1. Sleep until I wake up naturally. No alarms, unless there’s a plane to catch. Enough sleep is critical. I aim for about 7.5 hours.

2. Coffee before conversation. Hubs is usually up earlier so it’s almost always waiting for me. I check email and read the news as my brain slowly wakes up.

3. A little exercise. Most days it’s 20 minutes on the elliptical and 10 minutes of yoga/PT. At 73, I think that’s reasonable.

4. Healthy breakfast with protein and fiber. Some combination of oats or other whole grain, fruit, and goat yogurt is pretty typical. I do a crossword puzzle and Wordle as I eat and enjoy a second cup of coffee with a scoop of collagen stirred in.

5. Then shower and start my day. I look at my to-dos and calendar to remind myself of the day’s agenda and upcoming commitments. Check in with husband about his schedule. Coordinate remaining meals.

6. Afternoons, I want to spend time in my chair or on the deck with a book. Or we may watch an hour or so of MSNBC. Not much more.

7. Evenings we watch something distracting on television. Movies–old or new– and/or one of the British quiz/comedy shows we became addicted to during quarantine. We’re big fans of Jimmy Carr, David Mitchell, Lee Mack, Alan Davies, Richard Ayoade, and Greg Davies. Hilarious.

8. Early to bed and read until I fall asleep.

9. Repeat.
