Describe your most memorable vacation.
My dad passed in April of 2003. For the next year my mom and I planned the trip to Enniskillen, Ireland, where her mother was born. It had long been on both of our bucket lists.
We hired a wonderful guide (a retired teacher and headmaster) who drove us around on narrow roads that seemed to change names every few miles. With his help we found the family farm, the church where my great-grandparents were married, and the train station from which they likely set off on their journey to America around 1900. Of course we also enjoyed full Irish breakfasts, afternoon teas, and Irish coffees every night.
It was glorious and one of the best things I’d ever done and the last thing I ever did with her. She died ten days after we returned.
