Why do you blog?
Prompt for September 3, 2023
Like the old joke…
“How do you get to Carnegie Hall?”
“Practice.”
Even as infrequently as I post something here, it provides a creative outlet so that my writing muscles don’t atrophy. A book review, a personal essay now and then, a wise or snarky quote or cartoon, progress on a sequel to my novel—or lack thereof. It’s all good.
I’m not good at the daily habit thing. Even these daily prompts don’t always prompt me to write. I wonder why.
Granted, these days much of my creative energy goes to the Marketing team of Assistance League of Reno-Sparks . We create weekly emails that feature what’s on sale at the Thrift Shop as well as social media posts that highlight our various philanthropies. Those benefit local children, seniors, and veterans. All good and worthy of my time.
At seventy-three, blogging is just part of my strategy to stay engaged and keep my remaining brain cells engaged and firing. I also eat well, exercise, read, and do daily crosswords and play Wordle.
If you’re a senior, what do you do to maintain your brain?

Lorie, I too struggle to write frequently. My dream is to be a published writer and am hoping my scrappy little posts will help hone my skills to do so. Really proud of you for keeping up with this at 73! Truly an inspiration. Rooting for you!

Thank you. I need to make writing part of my routine. I’ve found James Clear’s Atomic Habits to be a great guide for developing and maintaining habits. If you haven’t read it, I recommend it. Thanks again for stopping by. Take care.

Thanks for the recommendation! I’ll have to check it out. I’d like to be able to make writing more of a routine but I’m happy that I was able to find more time to write this year. Although I struggle to do daily or weekly posts, I’ve been able to at least post every few weeks!

I’m not sure I fit into the ‘senior’ category just yet (although I am getting there) and love blogging to keep my brain active, as well as every day delving into all those other activities you mentioned – exercising, eating well, doing puzzles and finishing my day with my nose in a book. I also love spending time gardening 🌿

I wasn’t a senior when I started. 🙂 I forgot to say that I also spend part of my week as a volunteer Reading Grandma at a local preschool. It’s one of my favorite things to do and a way to make a difference. A little gardening too. Take care. XO

What a lovely thing to do, I might find out if our local preschool is looking for a Reading Grandma – I could do that 🥰

I have a blog, also. I support our local Assistance League and volunteer at the Central Library and the Still Art Museum. I do lots of reading and get out everyday walking our dog.

Yay you! Staying engaged and active is critical to our well-being, no matter what our age. I love that I found my local Assistance League after we moved here. I’ve made lots of new friends. I’m off to be a Reading Grandma this morning and then a training for Operation School Bell this afternoon. They do keep my one my toes!
Take care. XO

This is inspiring.
I am happy to hear this. I hope I’ll still be playing with words at the same age.
You go Lorie!
