What are your thoughts on the concept of living a very long life?
I’ve written about aging before. Here and here.
A brief recap: At the relatively young age of fifty, I looked hard at myself and recognized some things. (1) I wanted to be a VERY old lady one day. (2) I didn’t want to look and feel like crap when I got there. And (3) my current weight (over 200 pounds) would not support that goal.
I (re)joined WW (WeightWatchers) and committed to not quitting until I reached my goal weight. It took two years.
That was twenty-three years ago. I’ll be 74 next month and still at a healthy weight. I maintain a healthy diet. I read, write, do puzzles, and volunteer to keep myself engaged and happy. I exercise regularly and moderately most days. I can get up and down off the floor and do a yogi squat.
My little joke is that I aim to be 100, as long as I’m not IN PAIN or A PAIN. How about you? How do you plan to age well?

I retired to take care of myself, which sounds ridiculous. I loved my career (teaching), but it was one of the best decisions I made. Besides personal goals, I want to make some contribution to society.

I too like giving back and volunteering in my community. I’ve been happily retired since 2007.
