It’s been awhile. I graduated from high school 1968 and attended Fullerton Junior College for two years. My working class parents thought I should start there because of the low cost. They also weren’t sure college was right for me. Besides, it was just one town over and I could live at home. I worked part-time.
I finished there and transferred to Cal-State Fullerton where I earned a BA in American Studies as well as my MRS. We married a few weeks after graduation.

After that–and after moving to Nevada and having two daughters–I earned a teaching certificate at the University of Nevada Reno. As an elementary school teacher, I took various continuing education courses at UNR, Western Nevada College, and Truckee Meadows Community College. I also earned an additional certification to become a Reading Specialist.
College has been good for me and I’m grateful it was affordable for this kid of very modest means.
My wife and I had our honeymoon in Lake Tahoe and stayed at Northstar in Truckee. It still remains one of our favorite spots.

Tahoe is lovely. We rented a cabin in Truckee last summer for the family. It’s hard to beat the combination of mountains, trees, and water.
