My middle name? Which one?

What is your middle name? Does it carry any special meaning/significance?

My original middle name made my name an alliteration–Lorie Lynn. It also was a nod to my mother’s maiden name, Lindberg.  It’s not bad as names go, and rather typical for girls born in the 1950s. But it always sounded a tad unserious and juvenile to me. It also made me sound Southern, which I’m not–unless you count Southern California as Southern.

Around my 30th birthday, I gave myself a new middle name. Actually, it was my old maiden name. My grandmother had done that, long before anyone talked about women’s lib. So, it was kind of a family tradition. Besides, it honors the person I was before I married. I was Lorie Smith and still am. So, my married name added something to my identity instead of subtracting from it.

That’s a plus in my book.
