What’s next for Us?

As a writer, I thought and dreamed (and wrote!) about Us, Now and Then for over ten years. My characters kept me awake at night as I imagined them into reality. I worried about them and argued with them. They took up a lot of space in my head—and on my hard drive. And don’t get me started about plotting the darn thing.

Now that Claire and Libby are out in the world, I thought I’d be able to let them go. Reluctantly, sure. They were by now old friends after all. But I’d told their story. Claire and Libby each got their–very different–happy endings.

But you know what? Claire and Libby (and Sam, Jack, and the rest) wouldn’t stay out of my head. I kept wondering what they were up to now.

How does the never-married, globetrotting Claire adjust to finding herself surrounded on all sides by a big family in suburban Southern California? How does she fit in here?

How do Libby and Jack fare so far from family and friends? Is international relief work a good fit for them? And what about Libby’s health?

So, I’m writing again. For better or worse. It may not turn into another book, but perhaps a series chapters posted here on my blog.

Until next time, take care and keep in touch. XO
